Lesmahagow Parish Historical Society
The LPHA is a charitable organisation whose aim is to gather, collate and store items of local interest. The LPHA was in receipt of an Awards4All grant in 2009/10 to digitise the records and most of the photographs are now on disc.
Most of the holdings are written archive material some of which dates back to the 19th century. The main function of the archive is to provide research material for those interested in local history or for researching the family tree.
The archive is based in the resource centre in Lesmahagow and is open during the summer months during the middle of the day. The service is free but donations are welcome.
The LPHA has also been gifted artefacts which are on loan to local museums.
The original Lesmahagow Parish stretches from Poniel water to Douglas Water then along the Clyde to Crossford. It then follows the Nethan past Tilletudlum and Draffan taking in the old Blackwood Estate then down towards Muirkirk and back across to Poniel.
This is a huge area and the archivist is always on the look out for material which relates to the towns within the old parish boundaries. So, if you’ve anything relating to Lesmahagow, Blackwood, Kirkmuirhill, Boghead, Auchenheath, Draffan, Crossford, Waterside, Deadwaters, Kirkfieldbank, Brocketbrae, Dillarburn etc please get in touch.
